A total of $50,000 has been awarded to 50 schools recognised for their outstanding achievement in this year’s South Australian Premier’s Be Active Challenge. The money will go towards their ongoing efforts to promote physical activity within their school community.
Recognition for outstanding achievement meant the schools had all, or close to all, of their students complete 10 weeks of the challenge which accumulates to 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
In a challenge first, three students from Errington Special Education Centre were recognised with the Be Active for Life Hall of Fame Award, signifying their completion of all 12 years of the Premier’s Be Active Challenge which began in 2007.
Participation in the challenge, which promotes physical activity for all reception to year 12 students in government and non-government schools, continues to increase across South Australia.
This year 31,500 students from 204 schools completed the Challenge, amounting to a combined effort of more than 630,000 hours of physical activity.
A reception was held last week to celebrate participating schools, students and ambassadors. Parkside Primary School’s Parkside Adrenaline skipping team and Cirkidz showcased their active skills at the event.
