Brisbane to Host National Education Summit

For the first time, the National Education Summit will hold a Brisbane event in 2019, bringing a comprehensive professional development program to local educators over two days Friday 31 May – Saturday 1 June at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

With the flagship summit continuing in Melbourne next August, the Brisbane event is a new addition to the long running summit and comes in response to feedback from the education sector for a Queensland event.

After the temporary exit of other education conferences from Brisbane in recent years, this is an opportunity for teachers, school leaders and principals to attend the national event closer to home at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from Friday 31 May – Saturday 1 June 2019.

“As the education landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, there is no denying the importance of professional development in the sector. With the National Education Summit set to launch in Brisbane in May 2019, educators in the region can look forward to a full two-day program of innovative, informative and inspiring PD opportunities,” said International Exhibition and Conference Group Creative Director, Margo Metcalf.

Academics and leading educators will present a range of concurrent sessions and workshop events across four conferences at the Summit: Special Needs Symposium, Digital Classroom Conference, Creativity and Innovation in Learning Conference, and the Capacity Building School Libraries Conference.

Special Needs Symposium
A two-day Special Needs Symposium designed to bridge the knowledge gap, dispel myths, promote research, and explore the development of special needs in education settings. This Special Needs Symposium will bring educators together with the common goal of facilitating appropriate classroom strategies for educators, students with special needs and families of children with special needs. Covering ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety and autism spectrum disorder.
Digital Classroom Conference.

Creativity and Innovation in Learning Conference
This two-day conference will be led by Lou Deibe, Assistant Principal, and Mark Burgess, Deputy Principal, Lindfield Learning Village, known as collaborators, activists and provocateurs in the educational revolution. Lou and Mark are driven by an insatiable desire to find better ways to do the things that matter, the things that make school better for students and teachers in every school. These highly energetic sessions will develop mindset, skills and strategies for developing learning communities with creativity at their heart.

Teacher Librarian Conference
This two-day conference will be emceed by Karen Bonanno, Global Genius Educator / Leader with the opening keynote presented by Dr Marcia Mardis from Florida State University. A range of workshops, presented by some of the most experienced educators in their field, will focus on four major themes: Addressing professional standards; Creating engaging spaces; Designing learning experience; and Collaborating with parents.

Exhibition with Free Seminars
Throughout the two days, teachers can attend a range of free seminars scheduled on the Open Stage within the trade exhibition. These will range from students showcasing what they are doing around STEM in their classrooms, presentations about Virtual and Augmented Reality in Education, Flipped Learning, Sketchnoting, sessions from Microsoft around Office 365, Minecraft in Education and Inclusive Technologies.

Taking place as a part of the National Education Summit in Brisbane, a free trade expo will feature 40+ leading businesses and organisations, all exhibiting the latest resources, services, products and technology on offer which are pushing boundaries and re-shaping the current education landscape.
