Celebrating Australia’s Outstanding Teachers

Some of the best educators in Australia were recognised at the 2024 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards, presented by Schools Plus.

Now in its eighth year, the Awards spotlight educators who are pioneering innovative learning initiatives that set students up for future success, empowering children and young people across Australia to excel.

Shortlisted from more than 500 educators Australia wide, this year’s outstanding recipients were noted for their ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion, creating equitable learning opportunities and ensuring all students, regardless of background or ability, can succeed.

Many were chosen for their unique approach to teaching, transforming learning experiences and outcomes for children and young people through an emphasis on wellbeing programs, strengthening family and community engagement in education, and a passion for developing the literacy, numeracy and STEM skills needed for future success.

The ceremony honoured 12 exceptional teachers with the Teaching Fellowship award. Valued at $40,000, the Teaching Fellowship includes $25,000 to fund a strategic school project as well as a 12-month professional development program, including coaching and engagement with leading education experts to help further develop skills, networks and capabilities.

The Awards also give a nod to the next generation of educational leaders through its Early Career Teaching award. This award celebrates 10 teachers who have demonstrated remarkable leadership and innovation within their first five years in the profession.

Recipients of the Early Career Teaching awards receive a scholarship worth $10,000, including a study tour to high performing schools in Australia, an exclusive leadership, learning and mentoring program and $5,000 for professional development chosen by the teacher.
