Forgotten passwords, misspelled credentials, logging a classroom in can take up to thirty minutes.

Logging in with thirty or so usernames and passwords to get a classroom’s software running makes for an annoying time sink.

The consequence is that many teachers were putting EduTech in the too hard basket and simply turning away from it and its positives.

Teacher Lesley Woodhouse began to think that there had to be a better way and the result is Classhive. The software manages all the logins required by a class with a click leaving the teacher free to get on with the teaching.

“It came as no surprise, with the overwhelming workloads of teachers, that many teachers and schools choose to not use EduTech resources because of this time cost. This means that both teachers and students are missing out on the innumerable benefits that digital resources offer,” says Woodhouse.

“When we spoke with teachers, the main concern and pain point was the sheer amount of time a task as simple as logging in the class took. We developed ClassHive because we knew we could make it easier and faster and ultimately better support schools to get more out of their digital resources, giving more time back to teachers and their students.”

Lesley and partner Harvey run another EduTech resource, Wingaru Education, which supports Aboriginal perspectives.

“Following a school adopting ClassHive as their primary resource management tool, we have experienced, on average, a 30% increase in usage of our Wingaru Education platforms. Through this we are witnessing the very real efficiencies it is offering the industry - both for teachers and resource providers,” says Harvey Woodhouse.

By using ClassHive, most teachers report that they can log the whole class into their resources in 2-5 minutes, a big reduction from the current average of 30 minutes.

Classhive is also quick to set up, “When we do the set-up for schools we ask for a class list and the details of their digital resources. Once we have this information we get everything set up and ready to use within 1-2 school days. We are proud to say that through this service, most schools are using ClassHive the next day,” Lesley Woodhouse says.

Security is always an issue and Classhive’s creators have focussed on keeping the platform as hack proof as possible.

“We do everything that you would expect a system that manages passwords would do. From encryption, complexity requirements, and periodic rotation of security keys, to multi-layered protection of data. At ClassHive, we comply with all Australian privacy laws as well as hosting all of our infrastructure with Australian-owned providers to ensure that every part of our systems are protected by the highest standards of Australian privacy and security provision,” Lesley Woodhouse says.

The beta version of Classhive was tested with schools and families across Australia to make sure it was robust and stable enough to contend with real world pressures.

“We believe in the value of testing in the classroom as that’s where we are delivering impact and where we want to make sure the technology stands up to real life. Beta testing in classrooms also means that development has been guided by teacher feedback at every stage of the production pipeline, resulting in a tool that delivers exactly what teachers need - more teaching time.”

Research indicates that classroom admin is reduced by around 13% and according to Teachers using ClassHive, education resource usage is up 30%. ClassHive currently facilitates around 10,000 secure student logins per school day.
