More than one teacher will be approaching the end of the year rethinking their career choices, but many will also be concerned about maintaining an income.
So what might the next step be, one that might leverage the skills gained during teaching without the demands?
Laurise Narse began her career as a primary school teacher, driven by a passion for education and helping children achieve their potential.
“Over time, though, I found myself feeling stretched and unfulfilled. The demands of the classroom often left me with little time for family, and I began to lose sight of the joy and purpose that had once fuelled my teaching.”
Casting about for an solution Narse made the jump into tutoring and has been pleased with the decision.
“Tutoring provided me with an alternative - a way to focus more deeply on individual students' needs while regaining control over my schedule and rediscovering my passion for education.
“We work with students from primary through high school across a range of subjects. Our approach is tailored to each child, starting with a pre-assessment to identify their strengths and areas for growth. Personally, I tutor students with specialized learning needs, helping them build confidence and achieve their academic goals.”
To teachers who don’t want to be in the classroom full-time and are looking for a change Narse says, “If you feel burnt out or unsure of your path in the classroom, I’d encourage you to explore tutoring. It offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with your love for teaching while also enjoying a healthier work-life balance.
“Tutoring has been transformative. I feel a renewed sense of purpose and accomplishment, not only in my career but also in my personal life.
Narse currently runs a Parramatta based tutoring center with Success Tutoring who provide structure and ongoing support.
“Additionally, I’ve regained confidence in my abilities and achieved professional milestones I once thought were out of reach. From launching my business with 70 members in the first week to being featured in the Sydney Morning Herald, the journey has been incredible.
“Transitioning to tutoring has been a significant financial success. The structured support combined with a scalable business model, has enabled me to achieve financial stability while doing what I love."
