Open day tips for students and families

Preparing to go to uni is an experience for the whole family. The opportunities are endless — but so are the questions.

Open Days are a good way to find out everything students could ever want to know about courses, careers, applications and more.

ACU has prepared the following tips to help school leavers to get the most out of Open Day:

Plan the day in advance
Encourage students to plan their day in advance. Check out the programs and note down anything of interest.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions
Open Day is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions. There will be academics, course experts, support staff, and admissions experts ready to help.

Scope out support services
Many places provide support services.

Decode the application process
Meet with admission experts who can talk through important application dates, entry requirements and prerequisites. It’s also a great idea to find out about pathways, alternative entry schemes and bonus points.

Tour the campus
Make sure styudents go on a campus tour to check out the resources and get a real feel for the campus.

Chat to current students
Ask anything you’d like to know about life at the tertiary institution, from ‘how much time do you spend studying’ to ‘what are the best and most challenging things about uni?’ They’ll give an honest answer and can offer some great insider-advice. [SOURCE]
