Fancy a coffee and some frigid weather?

Applications are open for principal positions at 14 brand new Victorian schools in 2024.

The principals will be able to start at the new schools in Term 2, giving them nine months to prepare for the 2024 school year. They will need to recruit teachers and staff, design a curriculum and organisational structures that help achieve the school’s vision and values and create an identity for the school through its logo and uniform.

The Vic Government's education positive program is well funded and is focussed on attracting teaching staff to the state.

Places for 1200 postgraduate students to work in schools while studying have been created and the Vic Government has been actively recruiting international teachers to Victoria and providing financial incentives to support teachers joining hard-to-staff schools.

$779 million has been earmarked to recruit 1900 extra teachers to reduce face-to-face teaching hours and give teachers more time for planning, preparation, assessment and developing teaching practices – as well as $58.9 million over four years to attract and develop quality teachers in all Victorian schools.

Since 2014, $12.8 billion has been invested in building new schools and in over 1850 school upgrades in the state, creating around 17,400 jobs in construction and associated industries.

The plan of opening 100 new schools by 2026 is ahead of schedule, with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024.

The schools – known by their interim names – seeking new principals to head them up are:

  • Aintree Secondary School
  • Aintree Specialist School
  • Alexander Boulevard Primary School
  • Black Forest East Primary School
  • Brookfield Primary School
  • Lockerbie Central Primary School
  • Lollypop Creek Secondary School
  • Lollypop Creek Specialist School
  • Merrifield South Primary School
  • Officer Brunt Road Primary School
  • Riverdale Secondary School
  • Tarneit North Primary School
  • Truganina North Primary School
  • Truganina North Secondary School

Current and aspiring principals can apply to lead the new schools through the Department of Education’s Recruitment Online portal. Applications close on Thursday, 9 February 2023.

“The school principal is a unique and critical role which requires dedicated educational leaders to go above and beyond to both inspire and support our students and staff,” Victorian Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins said.
