School software company activates COVID-19 plan

Reporting and school management software specialist Accelerus XUNO has activated its COVID-19 Emergency Plan. In a communiqué to around 1000 schools, the company has announced a range of internal and external measures aimed at easing the expected transition from classroom teaching to a form of 'distance learning.

“Although we all hope for the best, it is incumbent upon us to prepare for less favourable outcomes – and indeed to help schools to do likewise,” says CEO and former molecular immunologist Dr Kiki Tanousis.

Staff have been conducting drills in 'decentralised support' – IT speak for people being able to work fully from home, with only the company’s servers and a few key staff holding the fort at their Melbourne offices.

Accelerus XUNO has asked schools to consider a range of measures to enhance their ability to continue teaching at a distance, should they be compelled to shut the school gates. The measures include training “stand-in” administrators, in case key staff fall ill, and refresher training for teaching staff on how to use the school portal, app, email and SMS for the delivery of online classes to kids, and community messages to families.
